GILDED SPEAR SCABBARD

Item #IND0018

Javanese or Balinese spear scabbard, around 1900's

Material: Wood with nice carvings, painted with red dye and gilded. It is showing a nice patination and signs of use (also into the scabbard mouth). Some small chips of the lotus flower are missing, and a not working crack at one side (as seen on the photos).

On top of the "gilded" ridges, the gilding abraded and a nice patina is visible on the wood.

Length: 31 cm

Provenance: International market

Similar kind of scabbards are depicted in "Over Inheemse Wapens in den Oostindischen Archipel", by H.J. Volskuil.
