LOENTOENG

Item #TRI0021

Loentoeng (native name), artfully cultivated and very old.

The basket had been made from woven ratan, with a skeleton of bigger ratan strips, of which some of them show beautifully carved decorations, filled with black dye.

There are two wooden vertical sticks, also decorated, in between them one piece of bark, which makes a second little bag.

There is a super patina on this piece and signs of use.

Height: 25 cm

Diameter: 16 cm

Additional info: A very similar is in the collection of Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde in Leiden, collected by J.W. van Lansberge. That one was donated to the museum in 1883 (contact us for additional info/photo of the museumpiece).

These kind of bags are very, very rare to find in this embodiment.

Provenance: An old dutch bringback from Borneo, obtained from a direct familymember.
