A beautifully decorated dayak bamboo storage container, with beautifull wooden carved lid, early 1900's.

These small tubes were mostly used to store tobacco and smoke equipment.

The bamboo tube shows great carvings, filled with black dye. 

The lid and bottom are carved from wood and the lid has nice carvings.

The rattan at the top of the container shows great glossy dark patina.

  

Length: 10,5 cm

Diameter: 5,5 cm (lid)

 

Provenance: Obtained from a direct family member, of a dutchman who took it with him before travelling home to the Netherlands after his stay in Borneo around 1930.

The man was working at the Borsumij (a Dutch company called "Borneo Sumatra Maatschappij") between 1930 and 1934.
