STORAGE CONTAINER

A beautifully decorated dayak bamboo storage container with old tag, wooden lid, late 1800's, upper Mahakam.

The bamboo tube shows great fine carvings, filled with black and red dye. 

The rattan at the top of the container shows a dark glossy patina.

Similar tubes can be found in the Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde collection of dr. A.W. Nieuwenhuis.
