MEDICINE STOPPER

Item #TRI0032

A wooden medicine stopper, South Borneo, Maanjan/Ngadju dayaks, early to mid 1800's.

The stopper has a huge dark and old patina because of its age.

The figure represents a Maanjan or Ngadju dayak, with crossed arms and strong expression in the face.

Most interesting are the carved moonshaped breastplates "Santagi" (the real ones are in brass and only several of them in the Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde Leiden collection).

Length: 10 cm

Width: 13,5 cm at the most widely spot.
