An untouched and not restored mandau from the south part of Borneo, pre 1900.

 

Hilt:

Worn antler hilt with spirals, leaves and a face on top.

The hilt has a glossy old patina and hair attached in the front.

The brass ferrule is original and belongs to the sword.

 

Scabbard:

The scabbard shows leaf motifs, which recur at the hilt decoration.

The belt buckle is a thick old piece of bone, attached with an old piece of cloth to the rattan belt.

 

Blade:

Old concave and convex blade. The blade is decorated with huge brass dots, and along the back of the blade, beneath the row of dots, the blade is decorated with engraved motifs till the slope of the blade.

At the base, there are engraved thirteen crosses.
