An untouched and not restored mandau from the Kayan tribes living in the east part of Borneo, 19th century.
Total length: 70 cm
Hilt:
Dark wooden hilt / beautifull old glossy patina / dyed hair still attached around the nose / original partly guta percha resin ring had been glued to prevent further damage and - or missing parts.
Scabbard:
Wooden scabbard / missing some rattan knots / rattan belt broke off a long time ago (not recently) / bark sideknife scabbard (broken) shows very old age and has attached a piece of bone at the bottom, and dyed tufts of hair and very old beads.
Blade:
Old thick and sturdy blade /concave and convex / brass inlay / blade had not been cleaned / incised motifs at the spine of the slope / 53 cm long / 8 mm thick at the base.
