Peudeueng, Aceh (North Sumatra), early 1800's.
Hilt:
The hilt is of the hulu meu apet style.
The tip is ending in a protrusion at the end.
The hilt has an iron basket shaped guard, decorated from the outside with typical Aceh motifs, as seen on these types of peudeueng hilts.
The guard includes an iron plate with a sharp ridge forged along the middle.
Underneath the basket, the hooked langets are situated, which are sliding on each side over the scabbard.
On top of the open cup, a brass (restored) star-shaped plate is attached.
Scabbard:
Made of Buffalo hide, dyed with red natural pigments, and has three small ridges at the outer side along the whole length of the scabbard.
The tip had been wound with cloth (and dyed with the same natural red pigment as the Buffalo hide).
The blade fits perfect in the original scabbard.
Blade:
Laminated, native, flexible blade.
The blade shows battle damages at the edge.
Slightly pitted in some areas.
The blade has concave areas on both sides, surrounded with shallow ribs along the back and edge, coming together near the point. There is a "false edge" at the tip.
