19th century piso gading, Batak (N-Sumatra), Singa.
Sheath:
Wooden scabbard, with interesting Batak motifs at the mouthpiece: A singa with long hair and scales, two snakes at each side of the mouthpiece, and a head at the back, with eyes of inlaid red seeds.
The mouthpiece is carved of one piece of wood (beautiful patina and at one side a (not working) crack, filled with an old substance), while the scabbard itself consists out of two slabs of wood, held together with brass decorated bands (one small one missing near the tip).
Hilt:
Massive elephant ivory hilt, with glossy old patina, some minor losses (chips) some time ago.
The hilt is in uncleaned condition, 10 cm long, diameter 4,4 cm.
Blade:
Sturdy / heavy uncleaned blade.
The cutting edge is sharp, and the tip is ending in a sharp stabbing point. The typical protrusion is still intact.
