Mandau, Sarawak, Kayan tribes, 19th century.

The wooden hilt shows old glossy dark patina from use, and is carved with limbs and aso figures at both sides. It still has the original braided rattan around the handle and old resin ring (both in mint condition).

The hilt is decorated with long tufts of human hair.

The blade of the mandau is decorated with many motifs at both sides of the (convex- and concave forged) blade.

Also numerous small brass dots are ornamenting the blade (some missing) at both sides.
