Timorese sword, "surik", early 1800's.


HILT:

 

Horn hilt with typical "old style" Timorese carvings. The hilt is adorned with red dyed hair. The hilt has a good old dark patina.



BLADE:

Old (import?)  blade, fullered on both sides along the back, and with stabbing point.



SHEATH:

 

Wooden sheath, with an upward curve, carved on both sides with motifs. The two slabs of wood are held together with rattan bands.

Some restores at the sheath.

These swords are extremely rare to find, and only a few are known in the earliest collected Dutch museum collections, like the Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde Leiden.
